speak english pls...

       http://www.petalk.com/images/larson-speaking-duck.gif

i love living in the big city... lots of things going on, different type of people, culture, food, etc etc... diversity, that's what attracts me the most...

however, 1 thing i also notice from people living in the big city... certain people, somehow, just refuse to speak english OR they don't even know english at all... i truly admire them for keeping the tradition closely, http://www.royaldeaf.org.uk/wss7.gifBUT c'mon now... you LIVE (not stay) in the english speaking country... could you PLEASE at least speak the language even just a littttlllleeee bit? esp. if you already live in this country for so long. i'm not saying that my english is so good, so fluently that i don't tolerate them. i do. i really do. i don't care if they talk to me with some heavy accent or broken english that i barely understand 'cuz i will try to understand them the best i can. you know... at least they're trying 'n i really appreciate it. i once was barely speaking any english, but i tried 'n am still trying 'cuz i wanna have not only indonesian friends here... i wanna learn as much as possible from as many people as i can meet, so i would be able to understand lots of things, and have an open mind towards others and their cultures. despite of all that, AT LEAST i can survive here

.............................................. IF these particular people still refuse to speak the language of the country they live in... at least, please don't get annoyed or mad if others don't understand what they're saying 'cuz they're not the center of the world.

http://www.royaldeaf.org.uk/wss7.gifa few days ago my granny neighbor spoke to me... 'n i have no clue what she said at all 'cuz it was in chinese. i politely said to her that i didn't speak chinese. she kept talking 'n talking 'n talking... 'n the best 'n most polite thing i could do was just looking at her blankly... from her gestures, she was trying to mention something in the backyard, but i really had no idea. again, i apologized to her for not understanding her at all. at the end, she got annoyed, said something, and back to what she was doing. i was like... geezzz, grandma... i'm not a fortune teller or some psychic who can read your mind. i'm sorry. i will understand if you at least speak some english. i know i'm asian, but please don't assume i speak chinese. hhh....... so annoying.

my parents taught me to respect the country wherever i live/stay while not forgetting my own roots. that includes respect to its language, culture, people, all the way to the government. they also taught me to at least be familiar a little bit about everything so i can survive or 'at least' ask for help. 'n they're so true... i can't imagine if i have to live this long in this country without even speaking any english....

...........and that also goes to other non english speaking countries...
