generation gap
hmm... how things can be so different just a mere decade apart...
when i was in high school longggg time ago, yes we already knew about computer, but i don't remember cell phone existed already... now? even kids 1/2 of my age are carrying PDA or cellphone or blueberry everywhere!... crazy eh? back in the day, i only knew the OLD OLD version of atari... even that was wow! already... now? ps3, xbox, the internet network game thingie (i forgot what it's called)... 1 of the big ones is back in the day, i WROTE on my notebook, went to library for research, drew diagrams by hand... now? kids are using laptop as their notebook, they just google stuff for their research, diagrams are drawn by computer, printed by printer...
amazing how technology can change this world so fast... just 1 generation apart, everything looks so much different and how people think also change....
i realize sometimes how completely different my ways of thinking or my perception towards something can be from some people who were born way later than me (added w/ the different culture i was growing up in). it always amazes me if i compare what i see and experience now with the condition and situation 'back then'. there're times i say 'you know, back in the day... bla bla bla bla'.... but then the more i say that, the more i realize that it's not fair at all to always compare and keep saying 'back in the day...' because not everything can be compared to my 'time'... time changes, so do people... i can't stuck in my past, keep comparing and refuse to adjust...
why do i say all this? because i know some people who always say over and over again 'you know, back in my day....' yes, sometimes i have a good laugh about it, but then at the end it gets old... yes, back in your day things are more simpler, more innocent (maybe), more this, less that... but then it's the past. now is now. the present. if the person you're talking to grew up in the same generation as you, then s/he will understand what you're talking about or what you're going through... but if s/he is wayyy younger than you, then s/he'll have no idea what you're blabbing about. imagine if your grandma suddenly starts talking to you by saying 'you know, back in the day...' will you have the slightest clue what it's like back in her day??? will you have any idea what would it be like taking 2 days travelling with caravan from 1 place to another back in her day while only take 1 hour drive on the freeway in this present time?
yes, i know it's good to know what is like back then because we can always learn from it, but then it doesn't mean that everything in the present is wrong or bad... but then again, i guess it's never easy to adjust huh??
geezzz... i guess i'm getting older eh?? since i can say 'back in the day...' now... ha ha ha...
