nyc observation

i haven't finish my 'research' yet. but i'm gonna give give you a quick outlook what i've noticed about this awesome city.

  • 1st and foremost... oh lordy lord, cute guys are everywhere. and they are straight, ladies and gentlemen!!! well, i think... hahaha... no need of vitamin A, contacts, or glasses 'cuz i'm gonna have a very very healthy pair of eyes here just from looking at them.

  • those cute guys come in different flavors and spices ;) he he he...

  • not just the guys that i notice. the girls are beautiful, too... and they come in different sizes. i kid you not! when they do have curves, they DO have curves... and they're so sexy! i am a girl and not lesbian, but i really have to admit, these girls are HOT!.... and they're REAL! completely different view from all barbies i saw back in LA :D

  • i'm not quite so sure if the male creatures in this city are more aggresive or more expressive... 'cuz many of 'em behave as if they never see girls walking on the street.

  • somehow... to MANY new yorkers or some people who already live here for too long, it is such a very awkward situation when someone stands in front of them and genuinely says 'hi, how are you doing today?'. the response received most of the time is either they look confused and dunno what to do or they're lost in words.... so i dunno, is it supposed to be sad or weird? maybe 'cuz it's a big city that people are barely noticing or greeting each other? :) maybe. actually, it's pretty much the same situation as my hometown, but since i haven't been home for quite a long time, i kinda forget how it is.

  • apparently to survive in this city, you gotta have the 'do not mess with me!' look. which i have no clue whatsoever what it is exactly or how to produce that kinda look. a friend of mine said once 'stop smiling to people!!!! you gotta act as if you're angry, then they'll take you seriously'. hmm... why should i give someone a cold look when it was my very very 1st time to meet that person.... or esp. when i need their help?... i have my serious look, but 'don't mess with me look'?? rrr.. anybody can show me? :D

  • renting a decent size apartment or room in a nice neighborhood needs a hell lot of luck. esp. when you're strapped for cash. just pray really really hard, never fail to make a wish when blowing your birthday candles, and throw all coins that you have to the pond... then maybe.. justttt MAYBE you get a place that's a litttttlllleeee bit bigger than a closet :D well, actually not THAT bad... but it IS that bad :D

  • it's a very common sighting to see a person carrying groceries, shopping bags, or even stuff that you don't normally see people will carry around... like book shelves, stones, containers, monitors, etc. why? 'cuz they don't have a car and they don't wanna pay the delivery service.

  • public transportation, for sure, is much much much better than SF or LA. well, i can't really compare it to LA 'cuz their public transportation sux big time.

  • 'cuz many are very dependent on public transportation, esp. subway... it's not a weird thing to see people with nice outfit for party/clubbing/prom hop in the subway

  • when you sit at the park or the cafe's outdoor seating and people-watch... you'll notice there're so many interesting people on the street. their dress, their style, their hair, their make up, how they walk, how they talk (you'll hear so many different accents and languages), etc. SF has them as well, however, somehow there's a completely different vibe here. maybe their aura?? or their attitudes?... i dunno

  • i understand that for some people, it's already in their nature to speak loud. i've seen and met people like that everywhere. but in this city, the quantity is 100 times more!... and the quality of their loudness?? don't ask.. just imagine :D

  • new yorkers or those who live here for quite sometime walk fast. watch where you're going and try not to bump them. if they're nice or in the good mood, they'll say (or more likely mumble) 'sorry' or 'excuse me'. if they're in their PMS, it's gonna be a completely different story. they can start yelling at you with their loud voice and 'beautiful' choice of words :D just try at best not to bump anybody... 'cuz some of 'em are pickpockets :D

  • i can hear different type of music on the street... from hiphop, salsa, merengue, soca, etc... i love it!

  • after going back to this list... somehow i sound like southerners minus 'howdy, y'all and the accent' :D

-----

this observation is based on what i've seen so far in the past 2 weeks and the short times when i was here for my internship or for other things. so, i might be wrong. i'll take my words back when i notice something different in the future :) but for what i've learnt and noticed so far, with all the goods and the bads, i know that i love being here... every single second of it ;) ... and i might have seen only a tiny facade of this city, but i sorta know why people say 'when you make it here, you can make it anywhere'

PS: to theblondebrunette, i haven't bumped into the 'eye candy' of nyc, the firemen, yet :D well, i saw some of 'em, but they weren't as hunky as the ones in the calendar.. ha ha ha... i'll give you update or hook you up when i see 1 ;) he he he...
