how do you measure success?
i know i've been away from blogging world for quite a while... :) my bad... BUT it's totally worth it 'cuz the last 1 month has been the most interesting summer i've ever had in my life... too much happening to be told; from the fun, crazy, headaches, to the drama with bitchy, spoiled, lost-couple-screws-in-the-head roommate. but it's all good. i'm loving it :) la vita é bella. thanks for the 'concern' emails... i'm still kicking he he he... just trying to savor everything life has to offer... esp, being in this crazy city
anyway,
i'm just wondering... when people say that they wanna be successful, what is it actually? what's the standard of being successful? having lots of $$? owning your own company? being mentioned in the newspapers for doing nothing, only 'cuz you're freaking rich and dress skimpy?? having your own corner office looking over the city? being married and happy with kids? being able to get a job and pay all your bills and debts? becoming the 1st person on the moon? winning an award? or....???
"reach the sky" and "sky is the limit" are what they always say... but what's the sky really? how high is it?... as tall as the skyscrapers? as high as the space shuttles fly? where the other galaxies locate?..... if someone said "yes, you can always aim the highest as sky is the limit. however, you still have to realize who you are", what'd it mean? ... that you can look up and always aim, but don't bother to figure out how to get up there 'cuz regardless of what you do, you'll still be in the pit?
i've been in the conversations where people are talking about their life, career, family and things they've been through. wow, i'm truly amazed. some has unbelievable drive to keep going further, others are already satisfied for what they have and don't feel like to achieve further, and the rest simply don't care at all. human, how interesting we all are :) but who am i to judge?
from everything i've seen, learnt and been through... i think that successfulness is very subjective. the standard is different from person to person. one's goal might not be as high as the others', however, happiness within is, i think, what matters. but then again, we're living in a very judgemental society. people will always talk about others regardless, even when you're already 6 feet under... expectations are always there, and the bar will always be raised to another notch higher. nonetheless, life is way too short. why don't we do what makes us happy as a person?? ....
and lastly, here comes the next question....
what if someone is a bum, and he's happy... will you call him successful?
well, i guess he is.... he is successful to be a bum :D
life is complicated, tough and not easy at all.... but it's still beautiful and VERY interesting after all
last note: someone who's very dear to me showed me what a tough life he was once in. yet, he managed to pull himself out from the very bad situation/neighborhood he used to live in and from the stereotypical people always have. with the drive, ambition, will, and everything he had, he worked his ass off to be where he is right now........... to me, that's 1 example of being successful.
