NYC and its 'perks'
they say... new york is the city that never sleeps
they say... when you can make it in new york, you can make it anywhere
but they forget to say... when you're in new york, expect the unexpected... expect to experience you've never experienced before...
just a week after moving to this city, someone took my purse with everything in it. the weird thing was i didn't even feel anything. i didn't feel anybody yanked my purse or do anything with it. nada! the next thing i knew, my purse was gone. that was it.
after that... things have happened here and there... people come and go... some leave prominent mark, some rrr aren't even worth to be mentioned.
only the last few days are by far the most interesting ones
about 3 days ago... the weather was so nice. considering we had 20s and lower 30s with single digit wind chills, 52F with bright sky and sun could be considered beautiful... i was out running my errands and meetings. close to rush hour, i decided to go home. as usual, i had my book with me. so.... i was waiting for my train on 42nd station to go home. i was leaning against the column and reading my book. then i noticed this guy, a bit shorter than me, wearing big size sweat shirt and baggy sweat pants, kept walking back and forth in front of me, and staring at me. so i looked up to see. he smiled... rrrr... okaayyyy?? i ignored him 'n back to my reading. a minute after, my train showed up. so i stepped in, and i noticed the same dude was standing very close to me and this time he was leaning against the column.... well, whatever. i picked my seat, and wanted to continue my reading. but the train didn't move, the door stayed open. so i looked up to see what happened.... well, nothing happened to the train... HOWEVER, as soon as i looked up... i saw the same freaking dude was wagging his penis and playing with himself... and smiling at me. GREAT!!!! so great!!!! so much for wanting to enjoy the last hours of a nice day! a beautiful day was scarred by that ugly sight. arggh!!! i looked back at my book right away 'n tried to shake the image out of my head. goodness...
..........................is living in this city bound for this 'wagging' experience?!
and the last one is what happened just now
it was nice. again, the weather was just PERFECT! yesterday was 66F!!! and tonite was still low 60F. so, i was having dinner with my friends in greenwich village at this spanish restaurant we randomly chose. the food was just being served, and we were talking and joking around... the next thing we knew... we heard this 'pop!.... pop!... pop!... pop!pop!pop!pop!... pop! pop!'... at 1st we thought it was people outside playing with firecrackers. but then we saw this couple literally ran inside and hid behind the wall. the girl looked extremely scared. from looking at her face, i knew right away that those were gun shots. the whole thing went so fast. the whole shots might only take less than 15 seconds. so fast. the waiter told everybody to go to the back of the restaurant. everybody talked at the same time. it was chaos even inside the restaurant. when we finally walked back to the front, cops already flooded the street. swat team was at the scene. a dead body laid right across the restaurant. blocks and blocks of street were closed. helicopters were flying above. some people were being interviewed.... 1st time in my life i heard gun shots... (plus: that close, loud and clear)... 1st time in my life i saw dead body that close... 1st time in my life i saw these many cops NOT in their uniform at once. from detectives to undercovers... and some of 'em literally looked like college students. wow!!! stories flew around... nothing seemed concrete. the only absolute thing was that nobody could leave the premise unless they wanted to get arrested. oh my! our plan to go to cafe wha! went to the drain. the food was on the table, but i lost my appetite completely... meanwhile the people on the other side of the dining table went back to rip apart their lobsters. 3 1/2 hours after, the cops finally released us to go home after interviewing every single person and taking our info.
what have i learned from both incidents?
NOTE: all my life i've crossed paths with so many people from so many different backgrounds, cultures and occupations. however, for what happened tonite, i gotta say that i'm so privileged to know 1 person i can call as my dearest friend. thank you for opening my eyes and showing me different perspectives of things. may you always be protected and safe
update: the news are still flying around. but for sure, those cops are still there investigating 'til God knows when... for the sake of 'to protect and serve'... hmm

what have i learned from both incidents?
- in times like the shooting commotion, you can see people's character very clearly from their reactions. from the quiet one to the very annoying one
- shit happens. when it happens, it WILL happen regardless where you are or what you do
- i used to be not a big fan of cops. i dunno why... perhaps 'cuz i got tickets from them and those suckers weren't cheap! :)... well, anyway... i wasn't sure why. stupid huh? i know.... but i'm ok now. there're bad cops... and good cops. however, in the past few months, i learned something more about them. stories after stories, what they went through, not from the news, but close and personal. and tonight, i saw with my own eyes, what possibly can happen during their line of duty. PLUS, with all the news with what happens to cops lately (from the shootings, the beating and the stabbing)... i honestly humble myself.
- well, more like questions and thoughts... why do people want to be cops when they know they can get killed? do they really want to protect and serve? or... is there any lucrative benefit offered? ... or the idea of having more power and part of the law?... or 'cuz they can carry gun? is it the adrenaline rush? or...?? hmm..... but whatever it is, i guess i'm grateful for them being so brave to choose that job. and my heart goes to their significant other... 'cuz it ain't easy at all to be with them. worrying and praying constantly so they can be home safe and sound every single day
- life can be taken away anytime.... we should enjoy every single moment. hmmm, does it include viewing some random guy's private organ in public?.... hmmm... well, i dunno what or where i should categorize it. 'cuz i know for sure it ain't one of the perks of living in nyc
- i know if my parents ever read this post, they'll call me and tell me to not ever go outside again... he he he... well, things happen. as i said before... you can always expect the unexpected when you live here. i know it sounds crazy, but i still do love nyc
- when you tell your friends about what happen, you can see the ones who care about your well being, and the ones who only want to hear the juicy story
- when they say 'listen to your inner voice'.... you literally SHOULD listen!
