judge not from the cover

there's a javanese proverb that says "witing tresno jalaran soko kulino" .. meaning something like 'love grows as you get used to the other person(s)'

is it for real? as a matter of fact, i'll say yes, it is... however, they also say that there's only a very thin line separating love and hate. so, there's a possibility that you end up hating the person :)

most of us are very visual people. self-image and 1st impressions are what people worry the most. medias overemphasize the notions; from tv, magazines, ads, movies, etc. we are trained to judge others from the cover without spending 5 more seconds to flip the cover and see what's inside.

as a student of life... i myself admit that i still have my shallow side despite of the right education from my family and schools. living in the big apple shows me a lot. people from all over the world and from different stage of life (and mind) are interwoven with each other... so close that we don't realize it. temptations to judge people from their look are so great as so many beautiful creatures around :)

but then... sometimes it's so hard to really look the 'real' person within since everybody, regardless how they look, has their own insecurity that they hide so tightly. another case, sometimes they are just hiding their real life from you completely. the 'true' person and the 'real' life of that person won't be revealed (voluntarily or accidently) until months or years afterward... leaving you startled and paralyzed.

life... with all the tricks in the pocket

so, now.. hypothetically...
you meet someone. you give yourself a chance to get to know each other and start accepting him/her. but deep inside, you know that the cover isn't exactly what you prefer... will love, compassion, and all those good stuff will conquer all?

and another question i've been wondering...
do unattractive people have less opportunity to advance their career?
